With wonderfully grimy production values, it never looks like you’re watching a bunch of cosplayers en route to Comic-Con. Yet for all those plusses, The Witcher struggles once more to tell a coherent story – even the subplots have subplots.

Volume 1 starts and ends very strong, with a bit of meandering in between. While the season as a whole is easy to appreciate, some of the individual episodes tend to repeat themselves.
