After missing several X-Files episodes due to her pregnancy, Gillian Anderson returned to her familiar role of Agent Scully in the November 18, 1994, episode "Firewalker." Re-teamed with agent Mulder, Scully investigates the death of a scientist who was researching volcanic activity in Oregon. At first, it seems that the murderer is Dr. Daniel Trepkos (Bradley Whitford), head of the research team. But as the evidence mounts up, it becomes obvious that the cause of the tragedy is a silicon-based parasite, capable of assuming human form. "Firewalker" was written by Howard Gordon.
