This Is Us' Tuesday, October 18, episode definitely delivered in the emotions department, and even made us laugh a few times.
While some of us may have worried about the functionality of the dual timeliness, I think The Pool is an example of how the technique works remarkably well.
As This Is Us gets comfortable with its characters and the viewers get comfortable with them, it's time to delve more into what got us here.
If tonight is any indication, This Is Us won't shy away from controversial topics.
But there they are, all five of them huddled together, comforted in the arms of their family. Man, this show knows how to put a heartwarming button on an episode, doesn't it?
It surely can't be an accident that an innocent-seeming trip to the pool is used as a framing device for this episode examining the ramifications of a black boy being raised by white parents.
"The Pool" tackles themes such as self-esteem, judgment, and race with great honesty, and confronts the characters with a choice.
