What to Know

Critics Consensus

Superbly acted and carried off with a light touch, Truelove is a deeply moving treatise on mortality.

At its highs, though, “Truelove” is a superb and knotty domestic drama. Go to Full Review

In the wrong hands, all this would be implausible at best, preposterous at worst. But Iain Weatherby, the series’ writer, is so sure-footed, weaving a story that is at once highly topical, completely compelling and beautifully tender. Go to Full Review

There is something a bit weird about Truelove's premise... Still, with its excellent cast and unusual, if scattershot, tone, Truelove has a lot more to say than most of the limited-series dramas we were served over Christmas. Go to Full Review

Truelove is the rare show that can combine elements of a thriller with real emotional propulsion. The fact that it addresses so many issues about aging, illness and death in a way that’s more matter-of-fact than maudlin is an achievement. Go to Full Review

Iain Weatherby's elegiac drama follows Esther Rantzen's call for a reform of the assisted dying laws but is so good no added poignancy is needed. Go to Full Review

A drama about grown-ups for grown-ups that took infirmity and death seriously enough to joke about it. Go to Full Review

Vincent F @Vincent516 03/03/2024 A nice idea spoiled by bad writing. This is an interesting idea and refreshing to see old actors take center stage. The acting is good and the storyline starts well, the first episodes are smart and touching, but things go downhill after that. Unfortunately the writing loses all originality and imagination, the crimes are too obvious and predictable and the young cop character is irritating. The final episode is awful, it is rushed and full of cliches and the ending is just dumb and unbelievable. It feels like a story that could have been good but sadly disappoints.
