Despite our doubts, we do think that the more serious turn for Turn Of The Tide will eventually work. It just might take some bumpy episodes to get there. Go to Full Review

Rich D @RT15305446 Nov 3 Awesome job Netflix!!! See more Fábio G @RT46949221 Oct 18 Watching Turn of the Tide feels like sitting at a neon-lit bar where someone promised you a wild story about cocaine, sea salt, and redemption and halfway through, you realize the guy’s been recycling the same lines from every Portuguese soap he’s ever seen. Now, don’t get me wrong, visually, this show looks like it’s been baptized in Netflix money. The lighting, the lenses, the drone shots… pure cinematic foreplay. You can almost smell the budget burning on screen. Every frame screams “production value,” and you can tell someone spent a small fortune making sure the island looked sexier than it already is. But then there’s Zé Condessa, the golden boy. The camera loves him, but I’m not sure the script does. Every time he opens his mouth, I can’t help but feel I’m watching a prime-time telenovela dressed up as prestige TV. He’s got presence, sure, but it’s the same presence he brings everywhere, like he’s forever stuck playing variations of the same self. It’s not bad acting… it’s just déjà vu with abs. On the flip side, Albano Jerónimo and Rodrigo Tomás are the real deal. These two carry the show on their backs with the kind of energy that smells like whiskey and heartbreak. If I’m giving Turn of the Tide two and a half stars, they’re the reason. Albano brings that weathered charm, part pirate, part poet. Rodrigo feels raw, unpredictable, like someone who didn’t come to act but to confess. The problem? The story doesn’t trust them. The writing feels like it’s trying too hard to sound gritty and cool. There’s no rhythm, no bite. It’s a parade of forced lines and plot turns that think they’re cleverer than they are. In the end, Turn of the Tide is all gloss and no guts, a beautiful face with nothing much to say. Like watching fireworks through sunglasses: impressive for a second, but the spark fades fast.
