What to Know

Critics Consensus

Young Sherlock doesn't aim to recreate Conan Doyle's work, rather, it takes pride in its liberal adaptation, delivering Guy Ritchie's signature blend of precise entertainment, sly style, and ingratiating characters.

This is a smooth-brained Sherlock. Anyone hoping for the puzzle-cracking pleasures of Benedict Cumberbatch’s BBC series, or any real character development, will be disappointed. Go to Full Review

While the other characters in the series talk a lot about how smart Sherlock is, Ritchie hasn’t got the patience or confidence to persuasively demonstrate this. Go to Full Review

One of the best series of the year with an amazingly fresh take on Sherlock Holmes with a career defining performance from Hero Fiennes Tiffin. Go to Full Review

Young Sherlock succeeds because it treats youth not as novelty but as a crucible. It explores the making of a mind, not just the solving of a mystery. The overall trajectory of season 1 is confident and engaging. Go to Full Review

Amusing but shallow, Young Sherlock passes time without displaying the magic that turned Old Sherlock into a memorable icon. Go to Full Review

Suzanne R. @SuzRuark 3d Delightful fun with enough drama and twists to keep it from being camp See more Gareth V @geewah Jun 3 It's slick, it's fun in bursts, but this is a show that keeps tripping over its own ambitions and never quite becomes the thing it clearly wants to be. See more Tim F @TPFFFFFG Jun 2 Great chemistry between the lead actors with the pace, excitement and wit you’d can expect from Guy Ritchie. If you love Ritchie’s stuff you’ll love this. See more vineet P @RT31890730 May 22 HIDEOUS thing ever watched. See more john J @RT07220984 May 18 As I watched the first three episodes, I grew to like the proposition and character development. Suddenly I found myself consumed; watching until my eyes required sleep. I finished the series in three nights with a hunger for more. What made Sherlock and how did his best friend become his nemesis. There are more secrets to know. Bring on season two! See more Michael S @RT70477509 May 13 Very well done fantasy/historical series with great production values and photography. I was really impressed with all the actors and thankfully this Victorian era mystery romp wasn't corrupted with the usual alternative casting we have to suffer through in most British and American movies these days. Although I wasn't fond of some of the modern music used in the soundtrack it doesn't detract to much from this ripping tale. Hero Finnes Tiffin is terrific and should go places.
