Jonathan West

Jonathan West is a seasoned television cinematographer and camera operator whose most extensive work has been on spin-offs from the "Star Trek" franchise, specifically "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," over much of the 1990s. West began working his way up the ranks as a camera operator from the mid-'70s through much of the '80s for a few obscure movies and for TV dramas including "Lou Grant" and "The Devlin Connection." He had his first full-fledged cinematography gig in '87, and the following year landed an 18-episode job on the TV drama "Heartbeat," with Kate Mulgrew and Laura Johnson. In '91, West earned his first Emmy nomination for his work on the TV movie "The Whereabouts of Jenny," which starred Ed O'Neill of "Married with Children" fame. The remainder of the decade was dominated by the two "Star Trek" incarnations, particularly "Deep Space Nine," on which he served as director of photography for 127 episodes and directed six. At the close of the decade, West transitioned from sci-fi to crime dramas, first for the NBC series "Profiler," and then for CBS's significantly more visible "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." West's next big gig came on the witchcraft fantasy series "Charmed," which West filmed from '02 to '06, right through the final episodes of the series' eight-season run, while adding another six episodes of directing credits to his résumé.
