Misty May-Treanor
Born July 30, 1977 in Costa Mesa, CA, top women's beach volleyball player and two-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor was raised by Robert "Butch" May, a member of the 1968 men's volleyball team, and Barbara May, a former nationally ranked tennis player. When she was eight years old, May Treanor played her first volleyball tournament, while also excelling in soccer, tennis and dance. At Newport Harbor High School, she was named High School Player of the Year in 1995, the same year as her graduation. After leading her high school team to two state championships in indoor volleyball, May-Treanor attended California State University, Long Beach, where she majored in kinesiology and physical education. In 1998, she led her team to a 36-0 record and a Division I NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship, while also being named NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player. May-Treanor was also NCAA Player of the Year in both 1997 and 1998. After she received the Honda-Broderick Cup for top female college athlete in 1998, she graduated Cal State-Long Beach and turned professional the following year.
