Sports broadcaster Scott Russell was born in 1958 in Oshawa, Canada. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario, he began his journalism career at CBC Radio Charlottetown in 1985. He moved to sports in 1986, and from 1988-92 he worked as a sports reporter and anchor at CBMT in Montreal. In 1992 he made the move to Toronto, where he joined CBC as a network sports commentator. In his tenure with the network he's covered 13 Olympic Games, which includes hosting "Olympic Games Primetime" for the 2016 Games in South America. He has also hosted CBC's prime time coverage of the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto and the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland. Also in 2014 he headlined CBC's coverage of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He spent 14 years as a rinkside reporter for the CBC show "Hockey Night in Canada." Outside the studio he penned blog posts for CBC Sports, and taught a class in Canadian Sports History at Centennial College in Toronto. In 2012 he received a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to Canadian sports, and in 2014 he was given the George Cross Award for Outstanding Broadcasting by Sports Media Canada. Additionally, he's written two books on hockey: "Ice Time: A Canadian Hockey Journey" and "The Rink - Stories From Hockey's Home Towns" (co-written with Chris Cuthbert). His third book focused on another Canadian favorite sport -- "Open House: Canada and the Magic of Curling." Russell has also twice completed the Boston Marathon. He resides in Toronto with his wife, Catherine, and their two children. In October 2017, it was announced that Russell would head CBC's Olympic coverage for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
