Big Trouble

Critics Consensus

With its large cast and frantic comic pacing, Big Trouble labors for slapstick-style hilarity, but it never really gains steam.

An incredibly fun and crazy adventure, Big Trouble delivers a lot of laughs. The film follows several characters including a single father, a mobsters, two high-school kids, a pair of petty criminals, a couple of hitmen, and an FBI team that cross paths in Miami during the hunt for a stolen nuclear bomb. Featuring Tim Allen, Rene Russo, Dennis Farina, Zooey Deschanel, Sofia Vergara, and Jason Lee, the film has an impressive all-star cast. And director Barry Sonnenfeld does a good job at setting a whimsical, lighthearted tone that complements the farcical style of humor especially well. Extraordinarily entertaining, Big Trouble is an outrageous screwball comedy.

A great line up of talent and Dave Barry's story about shenanigans in the U.S. capital of the Third World and yet ... fizzle, a firecracker that doesn't go off. Sonnenfield explains in the extras section that no one really committed, and that it rained a lot. Eh.

The only reason I re-watched this movie after 8 years is because my sweet angel, Zooey Deschanel, is on it so I was like...SWEET and I watched it. Of course, Zooey totally didn't look her best here but what the fuck can you do? This movie is average, somewhat entertaining. I laughed at some of the jokes in the second half but it was never consistent. With that said, it's not a bad movie by any means. It certainly is wacky and silly enough to be mindless entertainment for some people so I can see some people like this movie much more than I did. This movie has totally been forgotten about. Can't say I blame people, as even back in the day this movie was fairly average. But it's inoffensive way to spend 80 minutes if it ever plays on free TV.
