adam j. p @apollack 02/13/2018 If you get a chance to see the Oscar nominated live-action short films, do so. They were excellent and worth watching. Best Live Action Short Film: "The Silent Child," Chris Overton, Rachel Shenton - A beautiful film with an important message about how deaf children need support and assistance in life and in school in order to develop fully to their potential, and the serious negative consequences that lack of support can have. I found this film to be quite touching. Beautifully directed, acting was phenomenal. Rachel Shenton should be a star. This is my personal pick for the award. "DeKalb Elementary," Reed Van Dyk - Amazing, riveting, intense, had me on the edge of my seat. Acting and writing were excellent. Avoid spoilers if you can, and you will enjoy this one all the more. I would give this one the silver medal. "Watu Wote/All of Us," Katja Benrath, Tobias Rosen. A very timely and important message about the intense feelings which sometimes lead to ill-will and violence between African Christians and Muslims, and how one group on a bus ride chose to deal with such tensions, even in a life and death situation. Very well done. I would give this the bronze medal, so to speak. "My Nephew Emmett," Kevin Wilson, Jr. - Very intense, realistic, and informative portrayal of the abduction of Emmett Till. I learned a few things, but found myself wanting even more information than the short provided. But to the extent that the film's goal was to spur thought and further interest, it was a success. "The Eleven O'Clock," Derin Seale, Josh Lawson - Hilarious, very cute, good fun, well written and acted, and though it has holes in it, this short film was somewhat of a welcome comedic respite from the intensity of the other short film nominees. If you like the "Who's on first?" gag, you will like this one. See more 02/12/2018 Fantastic series of short films. Very hard to pick a favorite! See more Read all reviews
