Morgan (Anya Taylor-Joy) is a bioengineered child who began walking and talking after one month of existence, exceeding the wildest expectations of her creators. When Morgan attacks one of her handlers, a corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) visits the remote, top-secret facility where she's kept to assess the risks of keeping her alive. When the girl breaks free and starts running amok, the staff members find themselves in a dangerous lockdown with an unpredictable and violent synthetic human.

This movie had somehow escaped my notice but on one boring night I happened across it. With a notable cast, it starts out as a solid, albeit typical story. The acting is good enough, and you get invested. Unfortunately, there's a predictable twist and one that fails to land. By the end of the movie, you're just kind of waiting for the inevitable outcome. A solid premise and decent start, but ultimately falls flat. Good enough for a watch, but definitely a one time deal.

It was ok. It’s pretty much the same story as all of the others, with small changes. Cloak and Dagger, Hanna, Black Widow, Split, Species, blah blah. Taylor Joy and Mara do a great job with what they are given. But, they are not really given a whole heck of a lot.

Forget about the "humanoid girl that we built and is now deadly"...we've seen it all before. Focus instead on how kick ass glowering fatal Kate Mara is. She is the commanding presence; surrounded by the idiots who don't see how dangerous Morgan is, she is the only one that knows from the start and takes killer charge when things go wrong. It is a great physical performance.
