Critics Consensus

The tropes of both football and evangelical movies are gracelessly on parade in this banal, insipid drama.

Its feel-good storyline, shopworn message, and bottomless sermonizing would have played better in Sunday school than on the big screen, which is -- let's face it -- Babylon's turf. Go to Full Review

Fitfully entertaining… To reach a broader audience, though, the filmmakers will have to scrap their playbook and learn a whole new set of rules. Go to Full Review

By preaching to the converted so heavy-handedly, the filmmakers fumble an opportunity to reach beyond their target demo of devout churchgoers. Go to Full Review

While I wouldn't dare call it a perfect film, I would be so bold as to call it a film that ministers in the way that a Christian should minister. Go to Full Review

Robert H. @Rwhobbs198 4d Facing the Giants (2006) is a clear example of a faith-based sports film that knows exactly the audience it’s trying to reach. The movie is relatively short and was made on a very modest budget, which shows at times—particularly in the acting. While the overall production is respectable for what it is, the performances often feel inexperienced and not especially convincing. That said, the film’s message is unmistakable. The story centers on perseverance, faith, and trusting in God during difficult times. It leans very heavily into Christian themes, often presenting moments that border on the miraculous as faith begins to guide the characters toward success. The plot itself is fairly predictable, following the classic underdog formula where everything ultimately falls into place through belief and determination. For viewers who enjoy Christian inspirational films, it delivers exactly what they’re expecting: an uplifting, feel-good story built around faith and redemption. For me, it was a one-and-done experience. Still, for audiences who actively seek out faith-based storytelling, Facing the Giants will likely resonate much more strongly. See more Thin Line G @BLOCKBUSTER08619 Feb 28 My daughter asked to watch this movie and I have to say it's terrible. I have never seen something so God focused and I've seen my share of movies. If you love fake southern accents and Jesus and scripture being brought up through an entire movie then go ahead and waste your time with this movie. Otherwise I would recommend watching paint dry before watching this movie. See more Fire T. @fireterrell07 Jan 26 Movie made me laugh the hardest in years for how freaking corny it is. So there’s that. See more Mitchell S @Mitchstur Jan 25 It absolutely has elements of your typical Christian movie in it, but the journey is still somehow charming to watch. And most importantly, it echoes the most important message: NOTHING is impossible with God! See more L M @RT85819638 Jan 13 An old movie, but worth the time to watch. Nice to see more faith based movies available. Shows a football coach who changes how he coaches his team. Using faith to lead the young men to honor God, family and self. See more Ronald Evan T @Draggstar Jan 12 Should deserve at least 6/10 because it shows how a team that's bad uses their faith as a losing team to work hard and start winning games which makes a great story.
