It tells a worrisome story that shifts tones from romance into an apocalyptic mystery regarding the reality of a potentially looming threat. Edwards and Winningham give great performances. Although their love story setup feels contrived, they make it work with their chemistry. It's no coincidence they ended up married 30 years after making this film (I was surprised to discover this myself). There are moments the plot moves along in a seemingly random sequence of events that just feel plopped in (e.g. a sequence where he wanders into a random late night gym trying to find a helicopter pilot at 4am... huh?). But overall, the film works in delivering an uncomfortable reminder about the brittle nature of modern life. Definitely worth a view. See more r96 s 12/11/2024 Some movie, this! I had never heard of 'Miracle Mile' until a mere few hours ago, when I simply chose to watch it on Prime Video due to its cool poster. With only (a relatively) small amount of watchers on a few sites, I'm surprised this hasn't reached further. As per with me, I hit play without knowing anything about this movie; I actually knew it was classed under 'apocalyptic' from when I minorly vetted it (checked for sequels etc.), but had forgotten. The early few scenes have an odd vibe to them, though I only mean that positively - it fits perfectly, particularly the subtle omnipresent score. Anthony Edwards is the only actor I previously knew, well apart from Kurt Fuller (in only his second movie); I also thought I recognised the guy at the diner next to Harlan, but apparently I haven't seen Alan Rosenberg in anything - must be a doppelganger. Anyway, waffle aside, Edwards is very good - nice to see him away from 'Top Gun'. The aforementioned, coupled with an interesting story and a nice and short run time of just under 90 minutes, are reasons why I'd say you should watch this - it definitely deserves more eyes on it. Much better than expected, with some Hollywood flare that other films of this genre and era did not have. I really liked how this was done, the worst part may have been that it could have been given more time, a lot actually, but holy hell, this was great. Could have been a trilogy. Not only did De Jarnatt get to keep his weird and bleak ending but there are so many supporting characters treated with a kind of honestly and humanity you don't really get from much else from the 80s. Edwards and Winningham are perfectly cast. See more Ronald H 12/08/2023 A marvel from start to finish. Edwards and Winningham are superb, as are all the supporting cast. The cinematography is dazzling. This is the best apocalypse movie I've ever seen, and it doesn't need a bunch of CGI effects to make its point. That doesn't mean that the visuals aren't impressive. The entire film is shot with an emphasis on primary colors, and there are several astounding scenes that will remain indelibly in your head. The fate of the two protagonists is Shakespearean tragic, but you'll still be glad you took the journey with them. See more Read all reviews
