In seeking to create a narrative where he is the unappreciated genius, Kyle Michael Porter has instead created a unwitting portrait of a certain kind of ego: fragile, insular, and utterly divorced from the audience it supposedly seeks to engage. The title itself is a promise the film never even attempts to keep.
