Movie Info

About the Canadian metal band Anvil. At 14, Toronto school friends Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner made a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, went on to become the "demigods of Canadian metal," releasing one of the heaviest albums in metal history, 1982's "Metal on Metal." It went on to sell millions of records, but Anvil's career didn't flourish afterwards. Instead, they went straight to obscurity.

This band's story is a hopeful and endearing rock fable that touches the heart of many, even non metal fans like myself. Robb and Lips are two dedicated artists who never had the recognition they deserved.

Incredible documentary documenting the struggles of this band and how hard they try to become everything they ever dreamed of. It's definitely a very inspirational and touching story, because these guys never gave up in spite of all the shit they had to deal with during the European tour and how disastrous it was, and for them to still have the hope they had to make it in a business that simply didn't anything to do with them. And for them to still have the desire to make it is nothing short of inspiring. I think the movie is made even better because, 100% owed to this movie, they found bigger success than they ever had before. They're never going to be the biggest band of all time, but they found what they were looking for and that makes the movie better, when you find out about their successes after the movie's release. I'd highly recommend it EVEN if you're not a fan of the music, it's an emotional story about these two lifelong friends finally becoming what they always wanted, and that's always a great story to tell.

We have all heard the saying, "life isn't fair." Anvil! the Story of Anvil shows how unfair life can be. Anvil toured with Whitednake, Scorpions, and Bon Jovi on the 80s. Those bands exploded, but Anvil did not. Also to add insult to injury, peers love them. At the start of the documentary, you hear from huge names who cite Anvil as a major influence and a great band. Slash, Lars Ulrich, Lemmy, and Scott Ian talk about how great the band is and was. If they are that good, they should be famous, but somehow they got lost in the shuffle. Many bands would give up on themselves , but they show their true hearts and push through and that's what we see in the documentary. A band that's not rich, not famous, but resilient.

Great documentary about the most loveable bunch of "losers" on the planet - ahh - but losers they are not - the film is brilliant, their music career has had HRT and everybody loves them whether they like the music or not - good on ya fellas and keep on rockin'.
