04/13/2010 I didn't think this was particularly funny. I didn't think it was particularly unfunny either but, for the comedy alone it wasn't worth it. The racial/multi-racial issues were interesting and is the real selling point for this documentary, particularly in the historical context. Comedians Kate Rigg and Richard Pryor are, clearly & undeniably, the best & funniest comedians in this film, especially considering the routines that they did in this film. Maybe it is beside the point that Richard Pryor is one of my favorite comedians of all time and maybe it is also beside the point that I think Kate Rigg is the only inherently funny comedian focused on in this film still doing comedy today. There was a broad spectrum of comedians and I'm sure that was to show a broad spectrum of ideas & types of comedic stand-up, given the subject matter, but, unfortunately most of the comedians in this film, although interesting, weren't really funny at all, or only barely. Some of the comedians were downright unfunny, to the point of being downright insufferably obnoxious, almost to the point of migraine-inducing. Particularly the comedian, who's name I didn't catch, with the wild hair. Ppl hardly laughed at all during his routines and obviously it is bc the guy just isn't funny! Every time he opened his mouth I couldn't wait for him to shut up. He was horrible! I didn't particularly enjoy the pro-censorship stance that the film took and in part focused on. I found the Bryant Gumbel joke(s) to be particularly hypocritical, and racist, particularly bc of the pro-censorship and the anti-racism points of view, and it was just as disgusting as Michael Richards & his disgraced & unfunny screaming diatribe, similar to that of Rosie O'Donnell....
