Fool's Gold Reviews
A great romantic comedy adventure that anyone can enjoy if they don't take themselves or their entertainment to seriously.
A action movie comedy adventure film that was more Uncharted than the Uncharted movie.
As much as I like the actors in this movie, the movie itself is a disjointed piece of driftwood that is under water.
I live in South Florida and have been to Key West and the Caribbean many times. The Key West scenes took me right out because it was clearly not filmed in Key West. In fact, a lot of the movie didn't look much like the Caribbean either. Turns out, it was filmed in Australia. I couldn't watch it anymore after that.
This is the definition of guilty pleasure movie where you can turn off your brain and just enjoy a fun treasure hunting tale.
Absolutely awful…script is terrible and acting not any better.
Always love finding out that the general consensus among critics and moviegoers is totally different from my own perception of films.
Fun movie. Funny moments and a good romcom. Good chemistry between the cast a believable story. Fun adventure for a saturday
I liked it! Good amount of historical fiction, treasure hunting with a love story alongside. Would recommend as a good and different chick flick
Fool's Gold is an okay film. It is about a new clue to the whereabouts of a lost treasure rekindles a married couple's sense of adventure. Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey give decent performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Andy Tennant did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the adventure and humor.
It's a rom-com with a little action thrown in...but somehow Hudson and McConaughey aren't what you'd expect as they search for the sunken treasure. Kevin Hart provides some slapstick - but none of it really works.
It was OK after I got over the shock of seeing all this large hills in Key West and the Bahamas. Last time I went there there were no hills other than a few fire ant hills in Key West. Hollywood again you disappoint with the scenes and backgrounds.
I enjoyed it. It's funny and silly, something we need sometimes. Plus love Kate and Matt. Always a pleasure to watch Donald Sutherland.
Good mindless fun. Characters work well together. Some comedy and chemistry can go a long way in an adventure movie.
Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey's characters are so insufferable that they had to add a criminally annoying Paris Hilton-like character to the movie, presumably to make them look good by comparison. It doesn't work.
The critics are wrong. This movie is funny and the chemistry between the lead actors is realistic. The reason the critics don't get it is because they've never experienced a real relationship like the one depicted in this movie because they're not attractive or desirable enough.
McConaughey returns to treasure hunting that blends "Sahara" and "Into the Blue" from the desert to the aquatic tropics with childish performances and frivolous storytelling unable to shake off predictability, as the X's are only marked on rare but faded funny bits. (C)
I feel like there's a good movie buried just underneath the surface of Fool's Gold. After all, treasure hunting is usually exciting, the two leads have proven chemistry, and it's set in a beautiful place. However, the treasure's backstory is overly complicated, the characters are inconsistent, and the film doesn't really go anywhere. I think this expedition could have benefitted from a little more planning.
