Audience Reviews for Kitaro and the Millennium Curse
Jun 30, 2009Katsuhide Motoki returns to the Kitaro universe with Gegege no Kitaro and the Millennium Curse.
As far as the story goes, this sequel stands on its own. However, watching the first installment, Gegege no Kitaro, is still highly recommended. This film assumes that the viewer knows the characters and the fantasy elements. Since this is a strong sci-fi fantasy film, knowing these things is a big help.

The story explains just enough to make sense, but there are still many events and characters that get little explanation. Things are to be accepted. For this particular film, this is fine.

The run time is just under 2 hours and the first half is quite erratic. More specifically, there is a lot of jumping around between characters. The second half of the film employs a nice amount of action, which is playfully entertaining. The CG shows up in good quantities, and while it isn't superb, it is easily tolerable.

The cast from the first film return to reprise their roles. The newcomers this time around are Kii Kitano, Ken Ogata, Shinobu Terajima, and Ji-seob So. Rena Tanaka and Yô Ôizumi, once again, steal the show with the more entertaining performances.

Gegege no Kitaro and the Millennium Curse is as equally enjoyable as the first. That is that.JY S Super Reviewer
