Nov 10, 2013The Shakespeare references got the biggest giggles in our house, along with the parts of the movie that did align with Romeo and Juliet. Cute story, though.Angela A Super Reviewer

Aug 01, 2012When the humans are away, the garden gnomes get to play, with lawnmowers. In lane 1, you have Tybalt for the reds. In lane 2, you have Gnomeo for the blues. Tybalt wins but not without an accusation of cheating from Gnomeo. As mortal enemies, Gnomeo vows revenge. While out and about in the middle of the night, he runs into Juliet of the reds who is looking for an orchid to spruce up the place. At first, they take a liking to each other but whatever feelings they have are complicated once their true identities are revealed. "Gnomeo and Juliet" is much more fun than any movie about garden gnomes has a right to be. In its uniquely charming and delightful way, the movie also proves to be a winning introduction to William Shakespeare instead of relying on the usual pop cultural inanities, with just the slightest bit of innuendo. While one character is admittedly a little grating, the Elton John songs are neatly integrated into the story.(But why not 'I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues?' Seriously.) And now I know why the Yankees garden gnome my mom just got has been giving me the evil eye...Walter M Super Reviewer

Mar 30, 2012The reason this film works so well is that someone took the time to faithfully adapt the original play. As for the tragic ending...you'll just have to see it for yourself.Marcus W Super Reviewer

Jan 27, 2012Surprisingly this film isn't as stupid and one would imagine. In fact, it's fairly good. At the start of the film, Gnomeo & Juliet calls itself out as an unusual interpretation of the Shakespearean classic, setting up a smart, lighthearted tone for the story. With a stellar cast that includes James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Jason Statham, and Patrick Stewart, the film springs to life. In this story the Montagues and the Capulets are neighbors with competing gardens that war with each other. It's quit an inventive and creative story, and the CG animation is top notch. Gnomeo & Juliet is a smart film that's a lot of fun.Dann M Super Reviewer
