From Academy Award® nominated director Jan Komasa, HEEL is a twisted thriller that follows 19-year-old hooligan Tommy (Anson Boon), who revels in a life of drugs, parties, and violence. One night, on a bender with his reckless friends, he becomes separated from the group and is abducted by an unknown figure (Golden Globe® winner Stephen Graham). Though he is no stranger to inflicting violence, he is enraged and horrified when he wakes to find himself chained in the basement of the isolated suburban family home of Chris (Graham), his wife Kathryn (Academy Award® nominee Andrea Riseborough), and their young son Jonathan (Kit Rakusen). The family sets out to reform Tommy's unruly behavior, forcing him to comply with their relentless mind games or seek escape at any cost.

Critics Consensus

Having a maniacally fun time while wrestling with provocative questions about rehabilitation, Heel is a nutty thriller that has a surprising amount of method to its madness.

Whether Heel advocates for or indicts troubled-teen reprogramming is never clarified, but its despair at the societal decline caused by teens’ pervasive drug and social media abuse resonates Go to Full Review

Can this monster delinquent be rehabilitated? Theoretically, that’s an interesting question, except that the way this happens is so garishly contrived that we can only go with the movie by putting any plea for reality on permanent hold. Go to Full Review

Komasa’s formal impulses are still intact, but they’re in service of a screenplay that has no idea what it wants to say about anything it lays in front of the audience. Go to Full Review

Graham’s understated everyman and Riseborough’s just-off-kilter portrait of normal are equally captivating, especially as events spiral towards the weird. Go to Full Review

Kelly H. @kells89 1h A chilling and deeply dark film that leaves you morally uncertain from start to finish. See more Joanne H @RT85208661 15h The best film I have watched for a long time. The psychological and insight of the characters was really good. See more Vincent S @Vin_E_At_The_Movies 1d I love how the story unfolds in the gothic, very entertaining and intriguing "Heel". Anson Boon gives an outstanding performance, and Stephen Graham is also excellent. I love the dread, the suspense and the atmosphere of this thriller that always keeps you locked into the story and characters. Director Jan Komasa has directed another winner after "Anniversary". See more anabel C @RT38594713 1d Fully entertaining, with a great pace and brilliant acting. It’s the kind of film that leaves you wondering what it all meant, but not in an overwhelming way. If you pause and reflect, you can find the deeper meaning, but it’s not a brain-twister. It simply makes you think. The plot twists are also very satisfying. See more Elle T @Elle66 2d Wasn't really sure where this was going but was interested from the off with Stephen Graham and his toupee. Good story, kinda worked out what was going on but annoyingly there are still a lot of unanswered questions ie. why was there a need for the cleaner 🤷 See more Deborah T @Debs69 3d Well i watched this because i lime pretty much everything with Stephen Graham in it. God!! How disappointing, i just didn’t get it! I mean how did the lad end up in his house? Why were the wife and son so weird? Where did the cleaner go to?? The ending was the only bit to me that made any sense! Extremely disappointing See more Read all reviews
