Movie Info

Movie references, sight gags, silly puns, and double entendres abound in Hot Shots! Part Deux, Jim Abrahams' sequel to Hot Shots -- only now the object of the skewering is the Stallone Rambo movies instead of Top Gun. Charlie Sheen returns as the lunk-headed Topper Harley, who has retreated to a Buddhist monastery after being dumped by Ramada Rodham Hayman (Valerie Golino). In this far-off retreat, the monks have "taken a vow of celibacy, just like their fathers and their fathers before them." But Topper bulks up and goes back into action when his superior officer, Colonel Denton Walters (Richard Crenna) is captured by a Saddam Hussein look-alike, missing somewhere between "Iraq and a Hard Place." Topper charges into Iraq (after barreling through a Beverly Hills barbecue) along with sexy CIA operative Michelle Rodham Huddleston (Brenda Bakke) in tow, his guns ablazing. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

Audience Reviews for Hot Shots! Part Deux

The hilarity continues in Hot Shots! Part Deux, a parody film based on Rambo. When a hostage situation arises in Iraq, Topper Harley is recruited to lead a rescue mission. In addition to the Rambo films, there are parodies of Basic Instinct, T2, Hunt for Red October, Lady and the Tramp, and Star Wars. The humor's a little broader and more slapsticky than in the first film, but there are still some clever and outrageously funny comedy bits. Hot Shots! Part Deux may not be as witty or well-written as the original, but it still delivers plenty of laughs.

Sequel to Hot Shots! is just as funny as the first film. As far as spoof films are concerned, the Hot Shot films are some of the best along with Airplane! Though not as great as Airplane! There is plenty to enjoy about these films. Unlike the first Hot Shots! Which parodied only Top gun, Hot Shots! Part Deux parodies the action genre in general. The humor is pretty funny, and silly. But it's all in good fun. The film is a good spoof of the action genre, and it's fairly underrated. If you've enjoyed the first, then you're most likely going to enjoy this sequel. Most of the cast of the first return, but in different roles. As far as a spoof film is concerned, Hot Shots! Part Deux is one of the last good spoof films to come out, as the Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer spoof films are some of the worst ever made. At least this film is a fine end to the real spoof genre. Obviously the cast play a series of inept characters that are caricatures of every action film character. Hot Shots! Part Deux is a fun spoof comedy that brings on good laughs, and though it's not perfect, it's far better than the recent spoof films such as Date Movie and Epic Movie. This is a fairly well made comedy with tons of amusing references to other films. The cast hold the film together and they're all amusing in their own right. I really enjoyed this film, and though it's equally good as the original, I preferred this one. But both films are very funny, and this is a film that fans of the first should check out if they already haven't. If they did, it's a film worth revisiting. Tons of fun for sure.

Really funny even though it's taking the mick out of one of my favorite films, Charlie Sheen is again great and really funny, It's better than the first for cheap jokes.

While not as funny, clever, or thrilling as the first, "Hot Shots! Part Duex" serves as a very fun sequel, with just enough laughs to keep it's audience engaged. That is both good and bad, as more of the jokes here are misses to me. The strange thing about this film is that it feels completely unnecessary, but it works so well. Charlie Sheen is back once again in the title role of Topper, and does a bang up job of helming most of the best gags. This film came at the time where spoof films were just about to begin to get dumber, and I applaud it for being able to stand on it's own and have it's name still talked about in pop culture. This sequel is definitely an enjoyable one that I would recommend to fans of the first, but there is really nothing new to see here, other than a new story. The jokes are inspired from the first and the acting feels similar as well. It is the best sequel you can get though, so I liked it.
