The Basement falters with a script that needed more attention paid to the dialogue. Entertaining? Sure, I suppose. Successful? Not quite. As a whole, they just can't seem to get up the stairs.

A decent bad guy is not enough to carry a film, even a horror film. I need to care whether or not the characters survive. I need to be entertained by quality gore. I needed much more than The Basement has to offer.

[For] low-budget horror, The Basement certainly isn't the worst, but it's far from the best. It's a good time-killer with great gore and decent performances, a nice background while you play that game on your phone. Don't expect anything more.

Not an effective scare zone, best enjoyed as a chance to watch a few actors hustle to showcase their stuff, handed ample screen time to work through a range of bizarre encounters.
