This docudrama tells the harrowing story of 4 German Jews who made the decision to hide from the Nazis in Berlin rather than face deportation to the camps. It also brings to light the brave Germans who risked their lives on a daily basis to help many survive. Of the 7,000 German Jews in Berlin who made this decision only 1500 survived. Highly engrossing movie.

Phenomenally riveting. Pivotal time in history, detailed exposition of personal lives, and top top level acting. I think some of the reviewers were thrown by the amalgam of documentary (four elderly survivors telling their stories on camera with emotion and the perspective of distance) and novelistic features (those survivors' stories enacted in gripping detail). The impact is powerful, not depressing. The survivors' stories are amazing, and their determination and drive to conquer their oppression is inspiring and life-sustaining.

Had potential. I liked the docudrama approach. The scenes of vintage footage felt so misplaced. They were not tied to anything and the footage was pretty basic. They did not spend a lot of time focusing on the characters. Some more so than others. The interviews with the real people looked like it was filmed years ago. Could have been really good if it was just a movie based on their lives. It never quite worked as a movie or a documentary.

Stories as gripping as those presented in THE INVISIBLES are frequently engrossing and fascinating. Unfortunately I was pulled out of the story presented by the brilliant reenactments for straightforward and uninspired talking-head segments. I quite enjoyed the recreated segments and highly value the interviews, but they're not of similar caliber or very well woven together. This film felt much longer than its 1:50 running time.
