There are 4,000 film festivals in the world and 3,999 of them have turned down producer Nick Twain's latest flop of a film. So what's a Hollywood producer to do? He takes his misfit cast all the way out to the small-town O'Hi Film Festival, but trouble erupts when his male lead goes missing and his two leading ladies start brawling. Meanwhile, O'Hi's mayor is trying to make a run for the governor's seat and the president of the film festival.

The late Dennis Hopper's IMDB acting credits are 200-strong, but any qualitative ranking of those titles would put his last completed movie, "The Last Film Festival," somewhere at the bottom.

The Last Film Festival runs ninety minutes. I wish I had run in the opposite direction with unseemly haste. (It bears no relationship to Hopper's fascinating excursion into the jungle, The Last Movie.)

"The Last Film Festival" doesn't have the precision to successfully slap around the setting, but it does have Hopper, who's part of an ensemble trying their best to make sure co-writer/director Linda Yellen has something to work with.

It's hard to pinpoint exactly what was off with this movie. Entertaining to some extent yes, but it was still very haphazard. I would have sworn that this was made by a film student because of what appeared to be less than professional cinematography and editing, but I guess the filmmaker has made a few other movies. The casting was also off, not only because there was a mix of great and just okay actors, but also because they just didn't sit well together on the screen, like there was a total mismatch of talent and appeal. I think the only thing that saved the movie for me was Jacqueline Bisset. I've never seen any of her movies before, but even in this film she blew me away.

This movie is goofy fun. Who knew Dennis Hopper's comedy chops could rival Chris Kattan? It's an inspiring movie too, akin to Ed Wood making his schlock of bad movies -- the film demonstrates that anyone with a passion should pursue their dreams of film making, whether they're an outsider, established star, or has-been.

Every bit as bad as the fictitious film this was about. Funny for the first 15 minutes but then became stale. I think it would only appeal to indie film makers and industry insiders.
