To mark the centenary of the Wounded Knee Massacre of 1890, a group of Lakota Sioux recreate the flight of the survivors in reverse, traveling from the Standing Rock Reservation to the site of the atrocity. As these modern-day pilgrims brave unbelievable cold along their 250-mile route, they pass on culturally important stories, and descendants of the survivors offer their perspectives. Meanwhile, reenactments of the original slaughter are intercut with Hollywood representations of the events.
