What to Know

Critics Consensus

Packed with colorful world-building that's as frenetic as it is weightless, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's visuals are often out of this world but the threadbare story ultimately loses its Milky Way.

Peachy for fans and painful for newbies, this animated joyride is on the run for box-office glory. So what if doesn’t have an ending. It just stops as if it's totally exhausted. Now that I can relate to. Go to Full Review
Kyle Smith Wall Street Journal 18h
There’s almost nothing in “Galaxy” that even rises to the level of an attempted gag, and the movie is notably weaker than “The Super Mario Bros,” which was just barely watchable. Go to Full Review

Like its predecessor, this film is noisy, fast and unrelenting — not one you watch so much as allow to lightly steamroll your senses. At least that’s a fairly swift and amusing enough process. Go to Full Review

So on the whole, The Super Mario Galaxy might not be quite as fun as the first—I mean, really, the omission of a fresh Bowser song is unforgivable—but it’s still plenty fun. Go to Full Review

Go into this film like you're about to turn on your Nintendo 64 and play with your friends. There's no need to overthink things. Just have fun. Go to Full Review

It feels more like a series of situations and gags than a cohesive story or one with interesting characters, superficial in its ambitions and rushed to include as much as possible into a single package. [Full review in Spanish]. Go to Full Review

Fabian 14m LOVE IT! KIDS LOVE IT! Safe for Christian family and lots of laughter for the family! See more Melissa 16m Super fun movie!! Great sequel See more Xochitl 18m It was cute and action after action after action lol it was also funny and I loved Rosalina! Definitely wasn't expecting other video game characters to appear. There was also a T-rex scene and it was pretty cool. See more Austin 27m Amazing in IMAX my kids loved it See more Eme 33m Rosalinda is a baddie See more Carvens 37m 7.2!!! A very fun and childish movie for all ages!! Enjoyed the galaxy movie a lot with many characters, surprising cameos and nice end credits with the third princess. It did feel like a Rosalina and peach origin movie with them both having cosmic powers and being revealed as sister. We also get on screen father and son moments between bowser & bowser jr which was very entertaining and good as it gave more moments and screen time than Mario & Luigi. Also shoutout to Yoshi as the MVP who protected all baby characters in that dinosaur scene and was very fun to see on screen. See more Read all reviews
