Van Dyke’s crime-comedy mystery The Thin Man (1934) holds up because it is an intriguing mystery, but a truly delightful comedy starring a loving marriage between a brilliant detective husband Nick Charles and his adoring clever detective wife Nora Charles. It feels modern and feminist at Myrna Loy is simply a joy. William Powell is very charming as the cavalier detective Nick Charles. His casual manner and constant drinking to get his wife to stop drinking so much is very funny. He’s got this devil may care attitude, yet he’s very doting towards his wife. Loy herself is gorgeous and lovable as Nora Charles. She’s so insistent on being involved in the case that she becomes a real detective in her own right. She’s a loving wife that cares for her husband, but also feels like her own woman with her own tastes and humor. Her scrunching up her nose in jest at Powell, while he playfully mocks her back is a cute thing between them. See more Kalissa H. @kali_416 Mar 11 Great mystery movie. Very well done.
