Obviously, a boy will never truly know what it's like to be a thirteen-year-old girl, and I think the film subtly shows what it's like to be one—but only through the boys' perspective. Because of that, we'll never really know how the girls actually felt. I really love this movie because so many films portray depression in a very superficial way. Here, we see how the sisters deal with the grief of losing their younger sister and the overwhelming loneliness that follows. The atmosphere of emotional neglect surrounding them makes you feel so much compassion for the girls. Sofia Coppola made an impeccable feature film debut with this movie. She perfectly captures the feeling of loneliness as seen through the eyes of people watching someone struggle with depression, while also showing how impossible it is to truly understand what that person is going through. For this reasons i recommend this film, because its perfect and i hope some other people can watch

obviously i’ve never been a thirteen year old girl, but this movie made me feel things. i think it was perfect for what it was. a coming of age film about girlhood. the contrast between girl and boy groups in their teens. strict parents (the fucking worst). it touched sensitive topics like depression and grief (and ofc suicide) with the perfect amount of importance but at the same time a nonchalant attitude only teenagers can understand. i think sofia coppola’s debut couldn’t have been more perfect, this is an absolute cult classic and i can’t believe i didn’t watch this sooner. this movie fucking rocks!!!

I found this movie to very boring and though it had depth it felt empty at the same time. I can't understand or relate to this in any capacity and kept waiting for it to get good. Very weird film.
