    Once again a early work by Hitchcock that makes me think that his English years were his best years. The wrong man (the photogenic Derrick De Marney), accused of murder (And the rational behind this is not really important) and on the run, falls for the young woman (the equally photogenic Nova Pilbeam) who helps him try to prove his innocence. Romance While On The Run it might've been called. It's a sterling presentation all in all, and perhaps proof for those Brits that there's was a superior culture. Hitchcock's England is indeed enchanting. Loved this.

    Young and Innocent takes a long, scenic road to its conclusion, and the journey is only partly worth it. The abrupt ending is also somewhat unsatisfying. Perhaps this Hitchcock movie was more thrilling in its time, but it hasn't aged that well.

    So-so Hitchcock early effort, basically a not as good re-working of his own 'The 39 Steps'. It starts off fairly well but massively loses steam in the second half. The conclusion is baffling and ill conceived, grandiose tracking crane shot or not.

    A well-known actress is murdered and a young American acquaintance of her's is blamed when he discovers the body. Things look bad for him, so he escapes police custody in search of a key bit of evidence that could prove his innocence. He teams up with the daughter of a local police inspector, who gradually comes to believe in his innocence. Hitchcock essentially reproduces "The 39 Steps" with younger characters and a lighter comic touch, and it ends up being pretty damn good.

    Young and Innocent est un de ces nombreux films britanniques d'Alfred Hitchcock interchangeables, qui nous conte une histoire de manière compétente mais particulièrement insignifiante. Ici, c'est un meurtre pour lequel on accuse la mauvaise personne. Celle-ci se mêle d'amitié avec une jeune ingénue et c'est à peu près tout. George Curzon y est excellent en méchant, mais à part ça, il n'y a pas grand chose à retenir de ce film, qui n'est important que pour les gens qui veulent voir l'intégralité de l'oeuvre d'Hitchcock.

    Not a bad early Hitchcock 'man on the run trying to prove his innocence' thriller, but definitely done better in other films, including 'Saboteur' and obviously, ' The Fugitive'. Pilbeam is good as the 'young' Erica who falls for Robert (De Marney), the 'innocent'. She helps him avoid the police, including her father, the commissioner (Marmont) long enough to track down the real murder - who conveniently just confesses. Why were the band at the end all in blackface? Is that just because it was Britain in 1937? Anyway, a decent film, but not terribly dramatic or exciting.

    Snappy British Hitchcock film made between Sabotage and The Lady Vanishes - that is, right in the middle of a string of exceptional thrillers (that also included The 39 Steps, The Man Who Knew Too Much, and Secret Agent). One reason why this might be less well known is that the killer is finally discovered playing drums in a band...in blackface. Setting aside this particular awfulness (if you can) does reveal a playful film with Hitch's characteristically smart-ass use of sound, perfectly timed cuts and montages, and romantic banter between the leads (Nova Pilbeam and Derrick De Marney). The MacGuffin is a missing belt from a trenchcoat which may or may not have been the murder weapon. Of course, poor Tisdall (De Marney) can't find his coat or the belt and thus is held on suspicion of murder...until he escapes...with the Chief Constable's daughter (Pilbeam). Rather a merry romp, all things considered with a great tracking shot near the end (only to be rivalled by Notorious's later track from great heights into Bergman's hand). On some days, I like the British Hitchcocks even more than the American ones.

    A charming mix of comedy and thriller, like the rest of Hitchcock's output around this time it's very light, but there's enough of a hook combined with the director having perfected the prolonging of suspense throughout its runtime that it sustains interest from start to finish with a lot to enjoy in the ride along the way.
