Stanley Tucci headlines this short-lived medical drama, portraying a talented neurosurgeon who takes a rising star, played by Mark Feuerstein, under his wing. Their differring approaches to the science of neurosurgery don't get in the way of their admiration for the human brain, or of their respect and growing admiration for each other. The title references the fact that the average human brain weighs approximately 3 lbs.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Bearing an unflattering resemblance to another television series about a grumpy doctor, 3 Lbs. squanders the talent of Stanley Tucci on a derivative setup that lacks the necessary brains to stand out.

The puzzler here: Why do we need Stanley Tucci as a logical genius in scrubs when we already have Hugh Laurie? Go to Full Review

It is a shamelessly contrived piece of television, made to order and guaranteed to please. Go to Full Review

My heart belongs to Stanley Tucci in 3lbs, the BBC's latest American import. This features a maverick brain surgeon (Tucci), lots of very high-tech machinery (not much like my local hospital) and some quite classy camerawork. Go to Full Review

Losing 3lbs probably wouldn't be a bad idea, on many levels -- it's House without Hugh Laurie, it's a bloodless ER, and of course it is entirely implausible. Go to Full Review

Jonathan will be the emotional and moral go-between for Hanson and his patients and their families. It's a tedious role, but apparently someone has to play it. Go to Full Review
