Critic Reviews for Bliss Season 1

All Critics (6) | Top Critics (1)

If David Cross had removed all the jokes from his new Sky One series Bliss, it would have made a very fine, uneasy drama about bigamy and the lies we tell ourselves. Unfortunately, he didn't. And as a comedy, it fails pretty spectacularly.

Stream it, especially if you're as cynical as we are and/or don't like seeing happy, well-adjusted people in your favorite comedies.

Bliss plays up the cringe factor to the point of ultimate discomfort, with a lead character surrounded by a world of chaos he both causes and can't quite control.

Andrew's actions grow more manipulative and cruel throughout the series, while he himself never suffers quite enough. Long before the series does, you wonder what anyone sees in him. Denise, Kim and finally the audience deserve better.

This could only have a chance of working successfully with a convincing lead, and Mangan has been blessed with a wonderfully expressive face which can switch his mood between states of clunky affability, eye-watering anxiety and full-on anger in a second.

The ludicrous juggling act is both funny and frustrating to watch but mostly frustrating.

Audience Reviews for Bliss: Season 1

really nice series ... i really want more episodes though

Very original dark comedy. Well portrayed and grows more and more tense. Great to see something different on our screens, just hoping for a second season.
