Billy Campbell is still a very mediocre actor and uses a secretive-sounding, almost whispered voice which is SO ANNOYING! This drug-war plot and characters are much more believable than the antagonists in Season One. Vanasse outshines Campbell by a mile. She's terrific. See more Per S 06/02/2022 Cardinal has basically got what it takes to be a very good crime series, even though plot and form perhaps play a bit too much on typical modern genre clichés. However, in season 2 there are more logical flaws and perhaps also lack of realism. Even if the main subjects for the plot should be exciting enough, particularly the occult part, we never get to understand much what it's all about. The individual side dramas take too much space, and it all seems to lack intention. Nevertheless, there is some good acting, and the editing is still clever. I sodliered through the second season, giving it another chance after a fairly disappointing first season, but it just doesn't cut it for me. Same annoying raspy-Batman-talk, same annoying sepia-filter.. The scenario is so-so, typical delusional nonsense-killer, nothing groundbreaking or not seen before but I could overlook that if there was something to grab you.. The characters aren't engaging enough to care for and it seems the glimpses of their lives we get are trying to make us care, but it doesn't work. And what is so special about Cardinal anyway? He's your regural cop/detective but I don't see/feel the edge here. Maybe the novels are different/better?.. See more 02/09/2018 Series 2 was a big disappointment. Haven't read the books.
