Sheldon W @CapnAvg Nov 21 You know how there've been a lot of great shows that have been one-and-done/brilliant-but-canceled? Charlie Jade is one of those - a masterpiece of science fiction melded with the noir edge of a hard-boiled detective. It's taken me almost 20 years to find and purchase a DVD set of the show and it was worth every penny. Charlie is detective in Cape City, South Africa, who specializes in missing persons. When a young woman is referred to him by a police detective, he is confused when she calls Cape City "Capetown." Shortly thereafter, he finds himself in Capetown as the result of a small nuclear explosion that is set off in one of three Vex-Cor facilities built to steal the water from yet a third version of the South Africa area. The plot is intricate and detailed, with world building to match. As impressive as the plot, the CGI in the show holds up remarkably well. Jeffrey Pierce is terrific as Charlie. Charlie Jade is one of those shows - like, say, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., or Terriers, that does more in one season that even some of the best, longer-lived shows did in their more expansive runs.
