The Magnificent Eight

Critic Consensus: "The Magnificent Eight" is a fun diversion from the increasingly dodgy main narrative, though it could still use a little boost in the bad guy department.

Critic Reviews for The Magnificent Eight

I can accept a lot of things... But if the show going to outright just get things wrong, like a kid-aged version of H.G. Wells having tuberculosis in the American West, well, I'm drawing my line in the sand. And we all know H.G. was a woman anyway.

This was an above average episode of Legends of Tomorrow, but it was a little disappointing that the western scenes and Jonah Hex himself didn't have more bite.

While Ray is certainly courageous and heroic, this was a different context for it, and I found it surprisingly effective.

Once again, Legends of Tomorrow found success simply by focusing on an interesting new setting and allowing its characters to run wild.

That film is a testament to the thrills provided by a great cast, chemistry, and a well-told story, and although "The Magnificent Eight" does not reach those same heights, it is the best episode of Legends of Tomorrow so far.

Why didn't Ciara Renée get the old make-up treatment like Stephen Amell did several episodes back? That being said, I wasn't unhappy to see Smith playing Old Kendra.

It makes the overarching narrative feel very stale, and even though there are strong elements in tonight's episode, there's a sense of "been there, done that" with the script.

I like that about our Legends. They don't give up easily, and keep on keepin' on.

Once again, the show has more fun when it sheds the hunt for Savage, and contents itself with time travelling antics. However, this episode was bogged down by faulty logic and recycled plot points.

There's no reason to mince words for an episode like this. It's as wibbly-wobbly as the timey-wimey stuff at its core, feeling contrived in a way that draws attention to its creative seams.
