Critic Reviews for Documentary Now! Season 2

All Critics (15) | Top Critics (6)

The lack of point of view revealed by "The Bunker" speaks to why the show has never been able to find real depth within the surface beauty of its production. It's a show to admire. It's too bad it doesn't really have much to say.

Feb 21, 2019 | Full Review…

The show's stars, Fred Armisen and Bill Hader, elevate every episode with their performances, but it's a comedy that wrings laughs mostly with its rigorous attention to detail.

Sep 16, 2016 | Full Review…

Season Two isn't purely a high concept exercise in direct imitation, there will also be plenty of LOLs.

Sep 28, 2016 | Rating: 8.5/10 | Full Review…

Documentary Now! continues to surprise and entertain from week to week with such varied episodes, with some leaning toward slapstick and others more subdued.

[It] not only succeeds in pulling off the documentary parody that it's going for, but also in just being downright funny and another good showcase of Hader and Armisen.

Sep 16, 2016 | Rating: 3.5/5 | Full Review…

Yes, Documentary Now! gives Armisen and Hader the chance to play the same oddballs they used to play on SNL, but in a more extended, nuanced manner.

Welcome back, Documentary Now! I love you so much, you weirdo.

Sep 16, 2016 | Rating: A- | Full Review…

Documentary Now makes a solid case that it could very well be a comedy series that fits that bill, but the series' ambitions remain just a bit too hit-and-miss to fully realize that promise.

Sep 16, 2016 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

It's comedy absent a neon sign and an obvious "here it comes" moment. It's laughter when you least expect it and it lingers because of that artfully constructed set-up.

This show is brilliant. "The Bunker" is jaw-dropping, apoplectically funny. Top notch acting & writing.
