"Kill the Boy" takes a fresh approach to themes of growth and change, using poignant storytelling to dramatize the challenges of making life-altering choices and struggles with power.
Game of Thrones is capable of some seriously gorgeous visuals, and the shots of Tyrion and Jorah sailing through old Valyria, with a graceful Drogon soaring through the sky was this week's eye candy.
In my favorite moment of the season so far, one of the men of the Night's Watch grumbles that if the White Walkers take the wildlings, it means "less enemies for us."
Jorah and Tyrion's slow boat to Valyria, the penultimate sequence in the gripping "Kill the Boy," was a glorious piece of imaginative storytelling.
At the mid-point of the season, the pace in this episode felt once again as though we were gearing up for something bigger to come. But even in a slower week, the show's ambitions were still enormous.
I thought tonight's episode was superb -- crisply written, directed, and performed. This is especially remarkable given that we didn't once visit King's Landing, which has been the show's most reliable ace in the hole since the very beginning.
Not the strongest episode as it was designed more to dump some information than to progress the season's plot arc.
We're only halfway through Game of Thrones season 5, and next week we'll check back in with Dorne and King's Landing. For now, all we can do is take comfort in the fact that Stannis is finally marching on Winterfell.
We rarely get happy love stories in Game Of Thrones though, so this is bound to end in tears. My tears, and lots of them.
I like that I don't know what's coming. I like it and it makes me nervous, all at the same time.
I could plump for the increasingly badass Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), who is eventually going to rain down some holy terror on the heads of all that have crossed her.
