Second a @RT96545677 12/16/2024 I've long since heard that Lisa Frank wasn't as sweet as her art would lead you to be, but after watching this documentary I've come to wonder if that's the result of a successful smear campaign from her clearly scorned ex-husband, James Green, who is arguably painted as the protagonist of this docuseries. The only valid complaints lodged by previous employees are low pay and an overworked culture, key features of the art industry even now, and the rest of the docuseries feels like them recounting insane encounters with James Green and him personally discrediting, discounting, and/or dismissing their experiences. I have a serious suspicion that James Green somehow paid for the docuseries by the way they try to paint him as a spiteful victim, but he seems fundamentally unlikeable and even unstable with the little tact with which he discisses firing hundreds of people and someone even dying on site. It's important to watch the entire series to get a full understanding of this sad story. Who you think is the villain may not be. Perhaps it comes down to perspective. Things are not all bad in toxic situations and I like how the filmmakers didn't take a side nor did the interviewees. Ultimately what I learned from this is class division and it's exemplified in so many different ways. Just look up Lisa Frank's background. Her father was in the automotive industry, running Detroit Aluminum & Brass. I believe she loved art, but not sure she could truly relate to anyone she worked with. Is it really greed or is it power?
