Tv Season Info

The break-up of Alex and Dave (Elisha Cuthbert, Zachary Knighton) is a distant memory (at least that's what Dave claims) entering Series 2 of this witty and edgier take on the young friends-hanging-out-in-the-city genre. Alex, ever the dimwit of the group, moves in with Penny (Casey Wilson) after accidentally ruining her apartment with smoke damage. Meanwhile, her store ("Xela," Alex backwards) gets unexpected foot traffic from teenage girls. Elsewhere on the work front, Max (Adam Pally) buys a vintage limo in an attempt start his own service; Dave's food truck (with a liquor license) becomes a hit; and business is status quo (for the most part) for perfect couple Brad and Jane (Damon Wayans Jr., Eliza Coupe). A pair of sitcom veterans unite in an awkward side relationship when Penny's always-sunny mom (Megan Mullally) meets Dave's dad (Michael McKean).

In fact Happy Endings displays an invigorating antipathy to the Central Perkiness of young urban laughfests.

Ridiculous, silly and, of course, funny.

If the premiere episode offers any clue, then I think Happy Endings will be fine. A weekly dose of Elisha Cuthbert certainly doesn't hurt either.

Basically, the writing of the series is incredible, reveling in a wacky sensibility that embraces both snarky barbs and slapstick, yet avoids the treacle trap even when its character's reach their arc epiphany.

Happy Endings has a lot of charm, winning characters and some good laughs and it's worth picking up if you missed the show's introduction last spring.

I'm still left mostly cold by Happy Endings.

Sep 28, 2011 | Full Review…

It's a refreshingly simple show that only works because its actors have such good chemistry together.

This gang would make for supremely exhausting friends in real life, but that's what makes them such great friends to have at the remove of your TV.
