What to Know

Critics Consensus

Highway to Heaven is paved by Michael Landon's good intentions, but the arch tone and pat moralizing make this vanity project more punishing than enlightening.

Highway to Heaven has the ring of sincerity, a rare and refreshing thing on TV. Go to Full Review

A hypocritical and humorless serving of boiled-down religion and shoot-em-up plots. Sort of Clint Eastwood meets The 10 Commandments. Go to Full Review

There's an obligation to say its sentiments are admirable but yuk, did they have to make it so gushy, so sugary, so predictable? Go to Full Review

Agustin R @RT33211788 Nov 10 It's not just entertainment; each episode is a life lesson that promotes positive values for a more just society. Simply beautiful to watch. See more Andrew G @RT75057507 Aug 11 The two leads are likeable enough and the show is earnest. It's not even a bad premise. However, it is extremely mawkish, heavy in tone for an afternoon / early evening slot (there really aren't many laughs to be had along the way) and it's persistent moralising quickly becomes wearing. It's not that the show is unwatchable, just that it rewards your attention by tiring you out with its slowly delivered message. I always felt a little pang of dread whenever I realised it was the next hour of television on a Sunday afternoon, because I'd never get that precious hour back, nor would I get any real reward for that sacrifice. If there isn't a message in there, I don't know. I guess the show wasn't for me, or moderate people like me in search of a little entertainment or education. See more 05/11/2022 A classic for good reason! Yes, it does make one need to keep the tissues handy (I went through a whole box during a binge-watch... NOTE: that was only for ONE season).
