Audience Reviews for Keep Breathing: Limited Series

I think "Keep Breathing" has some good qualities that showed potential. I just think at a point the show becomes a bit repetitive and a bit boring. I think Melissa Barrera is good in the lead role and it was clear what they were trying to convey about her character. The show is just kind of forgettable when compared to other survival shows or movies. I feel like it's just long enough to where I wouldn't say it is worth the time. Overall, there are solid qualities about this miniseries, but there is not enough to make it worth the three-plus hours it takes to get through it.

The only thing that kept me watching was the scenery! The show was ROTTEN and she yelled more F**k You's and F**ks in the short experience than I heard in the entire show The Soprano's maybe even in my 25 years on my J O B or in the US Navy! BORING

Hey, I fell through the jungle into a cave, while a cement pad fell across my legs. But don't worry, I'll slide out from under it. Then, I'll fall off the side of the mountain and snap my ankle. Good thing I landed next to a giant stick perfectly shaped like a cane so I could keep walking. The idiocy of this show is staggering and will leave you frustrated and hoping this series does not Keep Breathing.

First episode was intriguing and had me excited. Unfortunately that excitement quickly disappeared and I was left frustrated with the constant switching between past and present and poor script throughout the remaining season. Very disappointing to say the least.

This is a story about a young woman's psychological transition into motherhood. It uses a 'wilderness survival adventure' as a metaphor for the protagonist's inner journey. The protagonist has childhood trauma, mostly related to her mentally ill mother who abandoned her and her father who subsequently struggled as a single parent. She's starting a new relationship and becoming a mother herself and that situation is forcing her to confront her suppressed feelings about her parents. The 'lost in the woods' element is largely a metaphor for Jungian shadow work; confronting the parts of herself that she has hidden from herself, but must be confronted before she can advance to the next phase of her life. Shadow work can feel like life or death survival, and I think the forest survival element does a great job of illustrating what the protagonist is actually going through.

I thought this was great. I think most of the negative reviews come from people who have little interest in childhood wounding, and healing. I guess people want it to be a survival thriller cos that's what they were expecting and get cranky when it's not quite that. The story is about her journey of psychologically processing her issues - the imaginary Sam is her inner critic and self doubt, the mother scenes are her dealing with the fact that she was never given an answer about why she left, and her feelings of being alone and needing a mother that wasn't there. Her coming to terms with the reality that she is no longer that vulnerable child. Her finally being able to let go of control (jump in the river) and trusting life rather than trying to protect herself from it. I related because of my own difficult childhood. I watch primarily arthouse movies, and thought this was beautifully done, was surprised to see the low ratings. The first movie that's made me cry in a long time.

Visually stunning and beautifully filmed, this series' biggest problem is the audience comes in expecting a survival-in-the-wilderness story, but what they get is a confusing and depressing allegory of battling one's personal demons. As much time is spent showing flashbacks from Liv's grim childhood as is given to following her unbelievable (literally!) survival attempts. The pilot and his buddy are both killed but she is unhurt? Okay. She can hold her breath underwater long enough for the Guinness Book of Records? Sure, sure. The bear is totally unaware of her presence even from five feet away? Seems legit. And didn't her Girl Scout troop provide the most thorough survival skills training you could imagine? Well, didn't it just. When Liv chipped her way out from under a boulder that should have crushed all her bones, using something not much bigger than an arrowhead, that's when I realized none of this was actually happening. No flight, no plane crash, no bear. The struggle to survive is occurring in Liv's mind as she comes to terms with her unexpected pregnancy, and her deep fear that she may be as unbalanced as her own mother was. Not that "Keep Breathing" ever makes that clear. Intentionally or not, it is left to the viewer to figure out what the hell is actually going on. Judging by the reviews here, it looks like not too many reached the same conclusion I did. In any case, I didn't like the show. The main character, Liv, was so unlikeable that I found it impossible to care about her. That tiny snippet at the end was not enough to redeem this series. An overly-generous two stars.

The scenery is outstanding and cinematography is top notch, but boy does this series fall flat after that. I feel the show forgets itself and the point of it all, with drawn out flashbacks and illusions that consistently and unapologeticlly happen on a rotating basis. It's a snooze fest for sure.

Robert Mckee was correct! Story Story Story! A project such as this would be a good example for students in film school. The original concept is a good one. The quality of the camera work. There was at least some effort on the part of the main character. But that's where it ends. There were several unlikable aspects to the film. It lacked focus on the main story, and it was all over the place. Way too much bouncing back and forth and illusions. The film contains many sequences that attempt to tell the story of something that took place in the past, leaving little time for the main character to develop in the vast wilderness. As you are not likely to see her persist in that location, what was the purpose of the crash? It turns out she likes berries and her boyfriend doesn't have enough shirts to last until laundry day. It was boring and paced poorly because of the flashbacks. In my opinion, I'd shoot at least 60% of it on the island, with 35% of the initial story back home in the build-up. And maybe 5% flashbacks. End it back home with the character stronger and more at peace with her past.

The good - visually stunning The bad - everything else. Plot was incoherent, paper thin, and inconsistent, acting was terrible, and mainly the main character was just thoroughly boring and unlikeable.
