This computer-animated series follows the adventures of Po, the energetic Dragon Warrior panda first introduced in the popular "Kung Fu Panda" feature film. Po, aided by mentor Shifu and the Furious Five -- Tigress, Mantis, Crane, Monkey and Viper -- now lives at the Jade Palace with the rest of the Furious Five and takes on new responsibilities while facing new adversaries as he continues his Dragon Warrior education. Lucy Liu and James Hong reprise their big-screen roles of Viper and Mr. Ping, respectively.

Even as a series meant for kids, the best thing I can say about Legends of Awesomeness from this premiere, which is only a premiere by default, as two other episodes aired as "specials" in the past two months, is that it's inoffensive. Go to Full Review

"Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness" may be aimed at a younger and smaller demographic than its cinematic antecedents, it is, mercifully, a show that won't drive every adult in earshot absolutely crazy. And these days, that's saying something. Go to Full Review

Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness actually benefits from its 30-minute timeframe, since there's little time to make villains too scary and only minimal hand-to-hand combat. Go to Full Review

01/28/2022 Guess I remember more episodes from this show than I thought I did. With that being said, Legends of Awesomeness never impressed me that much, even when it first aired. I was hyped with the memory of the really good second movie still fresh in my mind but overall, it felt like "the show I had to sit through before SpongeBob and The Penguins of Madagascar". There are some decent episodes, the voice acting's good (I genuinely thought it was Jack Black voicing Po at first but nope, it's the guy from the video game tie-ins), a funny joke every once in a while and an okay theme song but its biggest problem was being so damn bland. The animation looks like clay, clearly suffering from emulating the movie's art style on a TV budget which doesn't have the cartoony direction that Madagascar had. The action sequences are much less impressive than what we've seen throughout the film trilogy, and even some clips from the Amazon show I have no interest in seeing. The 2012 CGI Ninja Turtles show debuting a year later just calls more attention to this. And the structure hurts the show quite a bit, since rather than trying to develop the characters, it's mostly just The Furious Five playing second fiddle to Po's antics. Come on, you explored their backstories in short films, you can explore their psyches here. The villains of the week are forgettable, which doesn't help either. Also, the third movie indirectly rendered the Nickelodeon cartoon non-canon, making any further investment in this series a moot point. I tried to like the continuation of the Kung Fu Panda's adventures but it ultimately felt like what we feared the movie was going to be when it was announced for the first time, despite the writers' best efforts to make something salvageable. Tough luck, Dragon Warrior. See more Read all reviews
