The high-powered law firm of McKenzie, Brackman, Chaney and Kuzak handles both criminal and civil cases, usually for high fees. However, office politics and romance often distract the legal staffers from matters in the courtroom.

Gutsier, grittier, and more provocative than anything else in the new TV season. Go to Full Review

Series television rarely gets better than this... Bochco has been able to maintain the cliché-breaking surprises he has become famous for. Go to Full Review

Make no mistake: This is the TV show of 1986, one that instantly joins NBC's St. Elsewhere as a series worth committing to every week. Go to Full Review

The sharp script provides a safety cushion of sentimentality, and the acting is as dazzling as the office clothes and '80s morality. Go to Full Review

What sets it apart is the writing. The technical touches may not wow us as they once did, but the writing was really quite astonishing. Not just what was said, but what was left unsaid. Go to Full Review

The best series of the year, perhaps the decade (yes, even better than Hill Street [Blues]). Go to Full Review

Cb S @RT18705709 09/23/2023 Rewatching this show on Amazon Prime reminds me how great this show was. It holds together perfectly well. It's also so impressive to see a tv show with such a giant cast and so many extras. It was a great show from the pilot. It was also groundbreaking to show the ethical dilemma of defense lawyers having to help criminals get away with their crimes. See more Mike P @RT77437476 05/27/2023 Excellent legal drama. This is kind of Hill Street Blues turned on it's head. Stephen Bochco developed Hill Street Blues in 1981 and it was the first serialized drama like that; focused on a group of adults: all complex characters; and there were ongoing storylines and cliffhangers abounding; but it wasn't a soap opera per se. In other words it wasn't based around trashy revelations of who's sleeping with who; and oh I just found out you're not legitimate and who your real father is; that kind of melodramatic pap that was littering the airwaves at this point. And in that way the show was really revolutionary. But for some reason the grimy setting of Hill Street with it's downtrodden cops and criminals in poverty stricken Chicago turned viewers off. And it never became a hit; although it was a critical smash and changed television forever. So Bochco took the same serialized drama approach and turned it on it's head. No longer focused on crime ridden, poverty stricken Chicago and the poor downtrodden cops and crime victims there: now they were switching the locale to beautiful upscale Los Angeles; and focusing on the OTHER side of the justice system; not the downtrodden cops, but the affluent attorneys. But still a procedural crime drama with that serialized serious format. And BAM! They finally struck gold. The show became both a critical and a ratings smash! Winning several Emmie's throughout it's run and becoming very influential; I mean this show's DNA cam be seen in pretty much every streaming show right now-- they were ALL directly affected by trailblazers Hill Street and LA LAW!! Maybe more than two other shows ever in the history of television. And LA Law's success was much deserved. The writing, the acting, the cutting edge storylines that really pushed the envelope every week; and characters that you really grew to know and love unlike any other show that had premiered at that point; all that made the show really special and groundbreaking! So check out an absolute classic; LA Law. It's the grandfather to quality shows like Law and Order and NCIS and other classic streaming and cable shows like Narcos; the Sopranos and Succession. You'll see it's DNA everywhere; it was that big and influential. Verdict: Highly Recommended. See more Read all reviews
