LAX: Season 1 Reviews

The problem is that we are told that we are having fun instead of our having fun without being told.

It's the kind of show that's just unchallenging enough to make for relaxing viewing, while being just well-written enough to allow you to imagine elaborate psychological back stories for the characters.

The pilot was fast paced and had about three story lines too many, while the second episode was too laid-back. If the producers can find a good balance, they could have a fun, entertaining show.

LAX needs to settle down and find a comfortable voice, one with less Love Boat and more of the oddball Moonlighting sensibility. That is not an easy task. But there is already a lot to like in LAX with [Heather] Locklear.

In this post-9/11 world, a major international airport seems an odd place to set a show that injects humor into situations that aren't all that funny.

The show is filmed in a lush, Robert Altman style and has a sophisticated soundtrack, but the plot points do not live up to their packaging. Neither do the principles.

It's a whale of a show -- no, make that a beached whale of a show. But it sure has its flashy and wacky allure.

Everything about LAX shouts cancellation.

From its far-fetched and ugly opening through its touchy-feely close, the new NBC series can't decide what it wants to be. The result is a laughable drama with multiple plot lines, not one of which is even slightly believable.
November 22, 2019
The writers try to be contemporary on occasion... But the tone of the crisis is too playful to seem informed by any kind of reality.

You'd think a show set in the nation's third largest airport would take up that environment with some gusto. But no. LAX might be set anywhere that [Heather] Locklear could show off her white pantsuit.

It's tough to figure out where "LAX" is headed. The confrontations make for far more compelling viewing than the slapstick, though piling on emergencies can be too much.
November 22, 2019
"LAX's" reliance on LAX as an unspoken character can't make up for the absence of interesting sidemen for [Heather] Locklear and [Blair] Underwood.
November 22, 2019
"LAX" is formulaic, mindless and contrived, but for what it's worth, Heather Locklear is still hot, and so is co-star Blair Underwood.

The series' fundamental cheesiness indemnifies it against its failure to be anything better.

More a comedy than a drama, the pilot is so silly and cliched that one can't see how it can fly.
