Leverage: Season 1 (2008 - 2009)

Season 1

Critics Consensus

Leverage is uneven and occasionally illogical, but its twisty, exciting plotting make for a caper series that's compelling and watchable.

Critic Reviews for Leverage Season 1

All Critics (23) | Top Critics (15)

Hutton has loosened up nicely as he's moved into middle age, and he delivers a very relaxed, engaging performance as the man with all the answers. His sidekicks, on the other hand, are a mixed bag.

Dec 7, 2008 | Full Review…

Once TNT's new Leverage scrambles to its feet, it becomes an adept, fast-moving adventure yarn built on the familiar but serviceable premise that justice sometimes isn't best served through legitimate channels.

Dec 7, 2008 | Full Review…

It's tempting to see Leverage, TNT's new drama series, as populist wish fulfillment during the recession.

Dec 7, 2008 | Full Review…

There's a cast both likeable and great to look at. The stunts and scams they run have a "Mission: Impossible" style, but are pulled off with refreshing humor and verve.

Oct 3, 2018 | Full Review…

A breezy caper series that can't overcome its basic familiarity (and inconsequentiality), no matter how much it keeps winking at the audience.

The show fails only when it wants to make you feel something warm about their mission, rather than just letting you enjoy the icy suspense and snappy dialogue.

Oct 3, 2018 | Full Review…

It literally has everything going for it. Great cast, great story lines and a fantastic dialogue.

Oct 3, 2018 | Full Review…

Some uneven moments throughout the series, but the balance of dark humor and intelligent writing usually made the save in the end.

Oct 3, 2018 | Rating: 8.6/10 | Full Review…

It's so playful with its plotlines and characters and games that we get swept along well enough, not minding the eye-rolling bits. It's all thanks to a great sense of charm.

They may be criminals, but they're pros, and it's always fun to see experts showing off their skills. This satisfying and engrossing heist series also adds a layer of altruism

Oct 3, 2018 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

So far, throughout the first season, the heist-of-the-week hasn't gotten old, and it leaves plenty of room for expansion in the upcoming seasons.

Oct 3, 2018 | Rating: 3.5/5 | Full Review…

Unfortunately, it's "The A-Team" without any of the guilt or the pleasure. The only thing it leaves you feeling is apathy.

Audience Reviews for Leverage: Season 1

Its oceans 11 compressed into single little 48 minute episodes.

Leverage is a series that fell below my radar until I found it in re-runs. However, I am very impressed with the strong cast and show's creativity. Bought the series on DVD. Really wish it had more seasons. It is a great show with outstanding characters. It would be nice to see it revived at least in the form of tv movies. Many more stories await Nathan (Timothy Hutton), Sophie (Gina Bellman), Eliot (Christian Kane), Alec (Aldis Hodge) and Parker (Beth Riesgraf.) Creators John Rogers and Chris Downey have produced a winner!

Think new and improved, high tech and smooth version of the A Team. They're funny, the characters are so interesting, there's action and drama, taking down the big guy to help the little guy. One of the best TV shows of all time. I've re-watched all of it at least 5 times? So good. If I was a millionaire, I would fund 10 more seasons of it tbh.

Makes 0 sense, is up and down from episode to episode, yet... still very watchable
  • Jan 15, 2016
    Even adults like this season.
