Tv Season Info

Mary Harris (Caroline Dhavernas) is a single mother, a hard-working ER doctor and an angel of death. She and her partner, Des (Richard Short), a former plastic surgeon who lost his license, assist terminal patients and help them die on their own terms. It's evident that Mary cares a lot about the power and the thrill that this illegal activity gives her. At the beginning of Season 1, however, something happens that threatens Mary's gig: She falls in love with one of her patients (Jay Ryan) and starts having second thoughts about killing him. This sets off a chain of events that might cost her both her family and career. Ultimately, she's confronted with a difficult choice.

The unique premise and Dhavernas' underplayed performance have us hoping for an extended killing spree.

Speaking to the mounting consequences of her work in an upcoming episode, Mary sighs, "Life is a ride in the dark." "Mary Kills People" is its own special trip, and one definitely worth taking.

Grounded and believable, with the dry, witty, old-fashioned self-assurance of a Barbara Stanwyck or Katharine Hepburn, Dhavernas shades her comedy with drama, and playing drama is never more than a breath away from comedy.

Mary Kills People - that got your attention, right? - is an unusual and fairly entertaining Canadian series.

Mary Kills People had me hooked until the end. With more mediocre junk available than we can possibly watch nowadays, that's one of the highest compliments around.

Apr 21, 2017 | Full Review…

Mary Kills People is an energetic, savvy program that combines elements of crime thrillers, medical soaps, and propulsive character drama, employing all those recognizable forms to illuminate the complexity of the knotty issues at its core.

It's very smart and utterly intriguing. Watch episode one and you're sucked into anticipating the second hour with pleasure.

Rather than giving us a "mercy killing of the week" procedural, we get a delightful, blackish comedy-drama that handles its subject matter with dignity (not Dignitas), and comes highly recommended.

May 16, 2018 | Full Review…

My first impressions are that Mary Kills People is an ambitious attempt at humanizing a fairly controversial topic with a large cast of players, all of whom have a direct effect on Mary and her mission.

Dark but sensitive comedy about physician assisted suicide.

Certainly, it's an interesting new premise for a series.
