Season 1

Critics Consensus

Mercy is a heavy-handed medical drama that tries to draw blood from an overworn, cliched stone.

Some of this is heavy-handed. But Mercy can be affecting and involving, too.

There's no reason to pile on here, but this show needed many more months of gestation before getting thrown to the wolves.

But Mercy isn't just derivative; it's stridently, obnoxiously derivative.

Mercy is a bunch of played-out hospital cliches placed together in hopes of being the next Grey's.

It's worse than milquetoast; it's moldy -- but inexplicably glossy -- toast you find underneath the refrigerator that's been lying there for years, collecting maggots and smelling up your kitchen.

Mercy has an adorable cast of characters that I'm sure people will enjoy seeing on a weekly basis.

If you lived under a rock and had never seen a medical drama, Mercy would seem fresh and new.

Mercy, like the nurses it portrays, suffers from not being taken seriously.

To misquote the Bard, it's the quality of Mercy that's strained.

Nothing in Mercy feels real or believable, particularly the naivete of the recent grad student newbie nurse, who acts as if she's never been in a hospital.
