Experiencing the misadventures, missteps and miseries of teenage years is more bearable with a partner in crime. After all, two people commiserating about puberty, first loves, social ostracism, and the tender mercies of youth is better than one when you're out there, all alone. That's where Chad and Chris find themselves, stuck in limbo between childhood and adulthood in the bleak, uninspiring small town of Holford. They're best friends and total opposites -- Chad is melancholy and fairly level-headed, while Chris couldn't care less about his unhinged behavior or its consequences. Being responsible young adults can wait, at least until the end of high school. "Out There" is created by Ryan Quincy (the voice of Chad), a two-time Emmy-winning director and producer of "South Park."

The success of Out There will hinge on Mr. Quincy's ability to come up with interesting new adventures for Chad, but his acute observation of the milieu bodes well. Go to Full Review

Is Out There any good? It's just fine, although it never strays outside the conventions of poignant coming-of-age stories. Go to Full Review

Out There believes its characters can prosper, but doesn't collectively make an honest effort to portray their compassed journey in an imaginative fashion. Go to Full Review

Out There's low key brand of comedy and odd visual style are a welcome addition to the television landscape. Go to Full Review

For now, though, Out There, much like the boys at its center, appears to be overinvested in its own angst. Go to Full Review

Out There will probably attract older and more thoughtful viewers, who served their time in high school and remember the "best years of their lives" sucking hard. Go to Full Review

02/26/2020 Out There does a good job of capturing the feeling of being an awkward teenager in a small town. Enjoyable cast, good jokes, and the setting is perfect for this kind of story. If you're looking for a kind of laid-back but funny show to watch on Hulu, this one is a good choice! See more Read all reviews
