Sundance Channel's first wholly owned scripted series stars Aden Young as Daniel Holden, who spends nearly 20 years on death row for the rape and murder of a teenage girl, before new DNA evidence nullifies his conviction. He returns home, but he's far from welcomed. He's an outsider now in a town that remains divided by his alleged crime, and contributing to his uncertain future is the man who prosecuted him -- riding that notoriety to become a state senator -- is plotting to reopen the case. As he struggles to adapt, Daniel is comforted by support from his younger sister, Amantha, who has always believed in his innocence and has worked her entire adult life to secure his release. Not so for Ted Jr., Daniel's stepbrother with whom he has no relationship. Insecure and manipulative, Ted is skeptical of Daniel's motives and will do anything to protect his family.

That story is so powerful all by itself that I'm looking forward to seeing the show explore it at length, at its own pace, taking time without seeming to take time. Go to Full Review

Like Sundance's other recent dramas, Restless and Top of the Lake, Rectify moves at its own pace -- and offers its own rewards. Go to Full Review

Sundance's first original dramatic series feels damply airless-the tension might be ripped open at any moment by a thunderclap of revelation. Go to Full Review

Rectify is so unusual a show, with its own deliberate pace and premise and approach, that it may not build enough viewership to keep going. But that doesn't mean it's not a worthwhile show, or a memorable one - because it is. Go to Full Review

J H. @Jeany 2d This is a phenomenal show. So, so good. See more Timo E. @TimoEx Dec 23 One of the best shows ever written, acted & produced. See more M7AMD A @M7AMD Jul 20 The show Rectify is overrated and would have been much better suited as a short series rather than being stretched out into four full seasons. That said, the first season was good, and the second had some enjoyable episodes. However, by the third season, it became clear that the show was being dragged out far more than necessary. The fourth season, which I consider the worst, really crossed the line. It was unnaturally dull. The main issue with the series is its extremely slow pace, which can often make it feel boring, especially if you're watching it across multiple seasons. The situation just gets worse with each season. Another problem is that some of the characters were quite annoying, particularly Daniel’s sister. I genuinely disliked every scene she appeared in. she's always irritated, angry, and complaining, as if she's still stuck in her teenage years. Another frustrating aspect is the way most characters talk, especially the protagonist, Daniel. He speaks slowly and softly, and most of what he says is vague, meaningless rambling. But the biggest issue is that the majority of the events in the show have nothing to do with the actual plot. There’s barely anything that moves the story forward. Instead, most of the scenes are just gloomy conversations between characters, followed by tears and sad background music. To be fair, I did enjoy the first season or two. But honestly, I don’t get why this show is rated so highly. To me, it’s just an average series at best. *C* See more Nick W @cotcho20 Jun 19 It has taken me a few years to find it, but this series is excellent!
