Wyatt Cole is a self-described slacker who has recently taken a job as a paramedic in Portland, Ore. Somehow connecting with the world is his top priority, and he finds he feels the most "alive" as a "first responder." Originally meant to follow in his legendary surgeon father's footsteps, Wyatt abruptly switched paths by dropping out of med school. Dumped by girlfriend Alice (now an emergency room physician), Wyatt spends his days traveling the city in his rig -- alongside partner Sack -- and getting wrapped up in late-night card games that feed his growing gambling addiction. If Wyatt continues saving other people's lives, will he ultimately save his own?
